Usage guidelines
Staging
To distinguish the UC Irvine wordmark, it should be surrounded on all sides by clear space, which enhances graphic impact and preserves equity in the mark by separating it distinctly from other graphic elements and document edges.
The desired clear space should be at least one-half the size of the height of the capital “I” in the wordmark; however a distance of the full I-height is preferred.
Combining logos
Generally, the UC Irvine wordmark should be used alone. When it is necessary to use another wordmark along with UC Irvine’s, the two should not be combined or placed too closely together.
Other general guidelines for use in print and electronic communications
- The UC Irvine wordmark should not be screened or made translucent.
- Proportions of the wordmark must be maintained; they cannot be distorted.
- The wordmark must not be beveled, outlined, skewed or texturized.
- Fade-ins and other transitions can be used for interest on Web sites; however, the wordmark should not be animated.
- Do not add a border or geometric shape to the wordmark.
- Always be sure there is adequate contrast between the wordmark and the field on which it appears. In most instances, a blue or black wordmark can be used on a clean, uncluttered background. For use within a photograph or otherwise uneven or cluttered background, a white or yellow wordmark may be preferred.
