Important Housing Updates for Thanksgiving Break
November 19, 2021
Dear Housing Residents,
I hope your fall quarter is going well as we approach final exams in a couple of weeks. For those of you who are traveling for the Thanksgiving break, this is a reminder to protect yourself while traveling by following travel guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Website.
If gathering with family and friends from different households, especially when everyone is not vaccinated, consider wearing a mask while indoors or better yet move activities outdoors. If indoors, avoid crowded, poorly ventilated spaces and open windows and doors if possible.
The CDC is expected to authorize Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 booster doses for all adults in the United States as soon as today. Booster doses for Johnsnon and Johnson are already approved for all adults. Pfizer and Moderna boosters should be given six months after the last dose, and Johnson and Johnson two months after the last dose. You can mix and match vaccines for your booster dose, so for example if you received a Johnson and Johnson vaccine, you can be boosted with another Johnson and Johnson dose or a dose of Pfizer or Moderna. It is also a good reminder to get your flu shot as well to stay as healthy as possible for the holidays. COVID-19 vaccines, including booster doses, and flu vaccine are available at the Student Health Center and widely available in the community at pharmacies and clinics.
Unvaccinated students who travel for Thanksgiving and Winter break must test within 48 hours of return to campus, and then again 5 days later and must sequester for at least 7 days and until both tests are negative.
For those of you who will remain on campus for Thanksgiving weekend, please note that the Student Health Center will be closed from Weds 11/24 at 5 p.m. through Sunday 11/28. COVID-19 testing sites are open regular hours 11/22-11/24 (Monday-Wednesday next week) and closed 11/25-11/27 (Thursday-Saturday). The Student Center testing site will reopen Sunday 11/28 from noon-4:50 p.m. and all sites back to regular hours beginning Monday 11/29.
If you remain on campus and experience symptoms during the Thanksgiving break, visit the After Hours Nurse Advice Line website or call at (949) 824-3870 for advice and a referral to a local urgent care center for a COVID-19 test.
If you test positive for COVID-19 and need to move to an isolation unit, please call Housing at (949) 824-0185, and you will receive a callback from the COVID-19 response team with information and instructions.
Wishing you all an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday!
