New positive case

An undergraduate student living on campus tested positive for COVID-19. The student is in self-isolation and no contacts were reported. A cumulative case count for UCI campus employees and students is maintained at www.uci.edu/coronavirus.

ROTC cadet

On the front lines: An ROTC cadet’s pandemic service

Biological sciences major Steven Pong spent his spring quarter volunteering at a field hospital in New York while continuing his UCI classes remotely. “Being able to help people at their lowest of lows—it’s just the most amazing and rewarding experience ever,” the ROTC cadet says. “Walking them out of the hospital doors to send them home just…words cannot describe how amazing that feeling is.”

CVS and Target to require customers to wear face masks

Beginning Monday, all CVS stores will require customers to wear face coverings. And on Aug. 1, all Target customers will be required to wear masks or face coverings.

L.A. Latino, Black students fared worse in online learning
